I’m Lydia and I am a Level 3 ITEC qualified Sports & Remedial Massage Therapist based in the Eastbourne area. Alongside this, I hold qualifications in personal training and I am currently undertaking studies to become a physiotherapist, which allows incredible opportunities working with charities such as the MS Society to provide massage at the London Marathon. I am passionate about helping all my clients to get back on their feet after an injury by using a variety of methods within the realm of massage. Alternatively, I can provide remedial deep tissue massages for general relaxation and maintaining a healthy mind and body. Massage is defined as scientific manipulation to normalise and maintain soft tissues in the body. This can be achieved through a variety of manual techniques including applying fixed or movable pressures for an intended purpose i.e. relaxation, stimulation. Sports massage can be further defined as a form of massage that utilises specific techniques with aims of facilitating physical conditioning and preventing injury. |
Effects of this include but are not limited to power, endurance and flexibility. The National Institute of Clinical Excellence recognises sports massage and other manual techniques in the treatment of conditions such as lower back pain, and has been recognised in sports events such as the Olympics as a core medical service for many years now. Remedial massage is a complementary therapy which takes a holistic approach to treating specific conditions as well as whole body systems, such as aiding lymphatic drainage therefore reducing swelling, reducing tensions in tight or overused muscles, mobilising stiff joints , and is recognised to affect hormonal stressors by contributing to a decrease in cortisol which is released when there is a painful or stressful stimuli.
